Would you wear shoes that don’t fit?
I have worn these shoes to work every day for the past week.
I love them so much. They look good, and they’re super comfy to wear at work all day or even on my feet dancing at a wedding. And no, this isn’t a sponsored post - I just really, really like the shoes.
If they caused blisters, or if they pinched my toes, or chafed at the ankle straps… well, I wouldn’t wear them.
So why am I keeping shorts that don’t fit me anymore??
I am bigger now than I was a few summers ago. Actually, I’m bigger than I was last summer. And as a result, I’ve been pulling out a lot of clothes that don’t quite fit. And you guys, it’s the worst. I hate being uncomfortable all day, squeezed into pants that aren’t really my size, always tugging at them… I would never wear shoes that don’t fit. And yet I do it with clothes all. the. time.
Maybe it’s because our society has taught us that being a certain size (a smaller size than whatever we are now) is somehow virtuous - like we’ll be better people if we wear a size 6 instead of a size 8, or a size 8 instead of a size 12. But really, your size doesn’t have a moral value. Just think about how ridiculous it would be if we assumed that a size 6 shoe made you a better person than a size 9! If your goal is fat loss and you want to see those size whatever jeans fit a bit better, great! But you deserve to be comfortable in the meantime.
I spent the first half of the summer wearing jeans when it was hot out, pushing aside some skirts in my closet to get to the ones I could actually wear. Then, I just bought a bunch of new clothes that fit my body as it is now, and got rid of a lot of the old ones. And guess what? I feel so much better about my body in a bigger size than I ever did squeezing into those much smaller clothes.
So if you’re looking for a sign to go on a shopping spree, this is it :) If you’ve been afraid to buy bigger pants, I’m giving you permission to do it today. If you have been hanging onto that skirt that you’ll fit into some day, this is your moment to donate it - or at least, move it to a box in the back of the closet.
You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes that is too small, just in case. So don’t do it with your clothes. No matter what your goals are - whether you’re working toward a smaller size or not - you deserve to be comfortable. You deserve to get dressed in the morning without stress. You deserve to think about something other than how you look in those too-small shorts. You deserve it.
